One NorthEast are determined to ensure that the region is very proactive and coordinated in its approach to benefiting from new funding opportunities in developing a low carbon economy. Innovation in the domestic and community energy sector presents a great opportunity for the region to generate economic and social benefits. The deployment of low carbon technologies and solutions is an emerging priority for the UK moving towards meeting targets relating to carbon reductions, renewable energy and fuel poverty. The Heat and Energy Saving Strategy outlined the ambition to improve the energy performance of 7 million existing properties by 2020 with a £1 billion investment to achieve this aim. The European Green stimulus package means that increased European funding can be provided to innovative domestic energy projects.
